Torquay Harbour, Devon

PROJECT OVERVIEW

This contract was an extension to Beacon Quay to provide improved facilities for visiting mariners and the general public.

Initially, a cofferdam was formed with sheet piles to allow the works to be carried out in
dry conditions.

The seabed was then dug
out and a levelling concrete
was then placed.

PROJECT DETAIL

Onto this in situ concrete deck were then placed precast concrete caisson units, weighing up to 25 tonnes each, one on top of another up to five units high. These caisson units then became the sea wall to one side and they were subsequently backfilled, over which the
deck of the quay was then poured in situ.

CCP also supplied precast concrete coping units around the edge of the quay.
